Surge In Poverty Due to Corona virus

Poverty in the World is increasing due to the corona virus crisis. However, this is not very well understood by organizations that fight poverty, because very few home visits are being made due to the corona virus crisis. Civil welfare servants, who work from home also refer fewer people for help with financial problems. Digital and telephone contacts are not ideal at all for this group, according to the Poverty Fund.

Surge In Poverty Due to Corona virus

The Poverty Fund has recently conducted a poll among 1056 local poverty reduction organizations around the world. Of those organizations, 16 percent report that there is less demand for help. According to them, this is because care providers do not visit, while many problems become quite visible during home visits. In addition, the emergency services lack major contact with people who may be in financial need because no sports activities or trips can be arranged or organized. Walk-in mornings are also crossed out almost each and everywhere.

According to the Poverty Fund, 46 percent of local organizations saw the demand for help increase in the last six months. Single parents and families with children in particular run into problems, partly because the family members are more at home.Food banks are used most often.

82 percent of aid organizations are of view that the number of poverty cases will increase further significantly in the coming months, especially among self employed persons. In the big cities, one in three people is already struggling to pay their bills to survive.
